Edward V. “Ed” Minnier, Jr., 85

Edward V. “Ed” Minnier, Jr., 85, of Dushore, died Sunday, June 30, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He married the former Margaret “Peggy” Nati on February 15, 1964.

Born April 4, 1939, in Dushore, he was a son of the late Edward, Sr. and Elsie (Harrington) Minnier. Prior to his retirement, Ed was employed at GTE Sylvania, Towanda, for 30 years. Ed was a member of St. Basil’s Church, where he was a choir member, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a veteran serving in the US Army from 1958 to 1961, and 10 years in the Army Reserve. Ed was a member of the Dushore Ambulance, and the Loyalsock Post #996, American Legion Dushore.

Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. He enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to hunt, fish and enjoy the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, mowing grass and woodworking.

Surviving in addition to his wife Peggy, is a son, Edward (Brandi) Minnier, of Canton; two daughters, Lisa (Chuck) Bigger, of Selinsgrove, and Dawn (Pete) Umstead, of Dushore; eight grandchildren, Corey, Cody, Joe, and Katie Bigger, Dillon Minnier, Peter Jr., Erika, and Lindsay Umstead; fifteen great grandchildren, Carrera, Charlee, Braylynn, Sadi, Liam, Cassidy, Sydney, Rhoda, Kennedy, Layne, Levi, Layton, Edward, Elliot, and Elias; three sisters, Ella, Shirley, and Irene; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Louis and Florence Nati; his stepmother, Lucy (Trasco) Minnier; a grandson, Jason, and a great granddaughter, Virginia.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2024, at St. Basil’s Church, 101 Churchill Street, Dushore, Pa. with the Rev. Thomas Major, officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the US Army and members of the American Legion.

A visitation will be on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter Street, Dushore, PA.

The members of the American Legion will pass in review at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Edward’s name to the Dushore Ambulance, PO Box 1, Dushore, PA 18614.
