Eduardo Fernandez, M.D., 86, passed away on Oct. 2, 2018 at UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport Regional Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 2, 1932, in Lilo-an, Philippines, a son of Prudencio and Dominadora (Inamac) Fernandez.
Ed received his Medical Degree at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila and served his internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Yonkers, NY. His residency in Anesthesiology was served at McGill University Hospitals in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
He worked on the Anesthesia staff at Divine Providence Hospital from 1971 to 1978, and became Chief of the Department from 1978 to 1998. He also worked at several area hospitals from 1999 to 2007 before retiring.
He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, a member of the PA Medical Society, and the Lycoming Co. Medical Society.
He married Nancy (Gray) Fernandez, in 1967, in New York.
Ed enjoyed fishing, oil painting, traveling, and was known for his sense of humor.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, Adelaida, and a brother, Adolpho Fernandez.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy; three children, Doreen (Dan) Pope, of Gilbert, AZ, Philip (Vonda) of Riva, MD, and Michael, of Leesburg, VA; three grandchildren, Stephen and Matthew Fernandez, and Megan Pope, and five sisters, Theresita (Rudy) Cava, Leticia Torrea, Gloria (William) Hugonin, M.D., Zenaida (Bonifacio) Iledan, and Esmerna (Eli) Legaspi.
Funeral service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
