Earl Raymond Nick, 87

Earl Raymond Nick, 87, of Jersey Shore, passed away on March 5, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. Earl was born on February 6, 1938, in Cyclone, PA, to the late Robert A. and Mary M. (Wolbert) Nick. Earl’s life was marked by dedication to his family, his work, and his country.

Earl graduated from Smethport High School in 1956. After high school, Earl proudly served in the United States Army, exemplifying a commitment to service that he carried throughout his life. He received a Business Administration degree from RIT in 1964. Earl had a long and successful career in the field of Human Resources, where his leadership and dedication were recognized and respected by colleagues and peers alike. He retired from Sprint in 1992 as the Vice President of Human Resources.

Earl loved people. One of his gifts was seeing the potential in someone and being willing to walk alongside them in friendship and mentorship, helping them recognize their abilities and how their talents could be used to make an impact. Earl’s faith was a driving force in his life. He faithfully served as a Director on the Board of Sylvan Hills Christian Service Camp and as an Elder at Pine Creek Valley Christian Church. Earl loved his church family and Sundays were the highlight of his week. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, classic cars, and negotiating a good deal. Those who knew him best would say there was nothing he couldn’t do because there was nothing he wouldn’t try.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings; Eugene Nick, Bernard Nick, Robert J. Nick, William Nick, Dolores Murphy, Grace Wineberg, Helen Comes, Ruth Rodgers, Mary Eidson, as well as his son, Michael Nick, and former wife Kay Larson.

Earl loved his family well. He leaves behind many who will cherish his memory—his devoted wife, Polly (Yearick) Nick; sons Scott (Betsy) Gettig and Andrew (Tara) Gettig; daughters Melanie (Tom) Nesbitt, Allison Nick, Anita (Keith) Tressler, and Amy (Jeff) Frank. He is also survived by his brother, John (Pam) Nick, sister Connie (Don) Switzer, and 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
