Dorothy L. Montgomery, 87, of Williamsport, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at the Gatehouse surrounded by family.
Born May 25, 1938, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Edna Hilliard Cupp.
She graduated from Williamsport High School in 1956 as a member of the Honor Society and received the George E. Graff award in journalism. Also, in her senior year she was worthy advisor of the Williamsport chapter of The Rainbow for Girls. She was a majorette at Roosevelt, Williamsport High School and Mansfield State Teachers College.
She was a 12-year volunteer for Hospice. Earlier she had worked at Tetley Tea and as an aide at Leader Nursing Center. She was a licensed Real Estate agent with the George Koons Agency. In recent years with Lancaster Bingo Co., and retired from Keystone Bingo Co. as an electronic attendant. She was a homemaker who enjoyed crafts, cooking, baking, and spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed bingo, bowling, and going to casinos.
She was a member of the Grottoettes, Wheel Inn, First Ward, Duboistown and Independent Fire Companies. She also was a member of several bowling leagues, the last being the Thursday Afternoon Social League, and belonged to the 700 Club. Dottie was the first female member in the Lycoming County Kennel Club. She was a member of the former Newberry Methodist Church. Her husband of 35 years, Walter E. Montgomery Jr., died March 26, 1993.
Surviving are two daughters, Cindy Montgomery, of Antes Fort and Pamela Ogden of Avis; two sisters, Nancy Debusk of FL and Janis Quiles of GA; fourteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Carol Montgomery and family.
Along with her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her three sons, Mark, Jeff, and Jason Montgomery; one brother, Allen Cupp; three sisters, Millie Bulna, Betsy Fullmer, and Patti Cupp; and a special friend, Nancy Beattie.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday, July 30, at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport. A funeral service to honor Dottie’s life will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday. Burial will follow in Montoursville Cemetery with a luncheon to follow.
