Doris R. VanDervoort, 100, formerly of Montoursville, passed away at Brethren Village Retirement Community in Lititz, Pa. on March 14, 2025, where she resided for the past eight years. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Gary) McDowell of Lancaster, Pa.
William D. VanDervoort retired Air Force MSgt, her husband for over 50 years, preceded her in death in 2005.
Doris was born in Spring Mills, Pa on December 19,1924. She was one of seven children born to Ruth and Wiley Musser. Doris graduated from Muncy High School, Class of 1942.
As a young woman she worked at F.B. Heal Variety Store and at the Sylvania plant building flash tubes during the war. She served much later as the manager for the Montgomery Ward catalog store. Doris also worked at the election polls for over 30 years registering voters.
Doris was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, Montoursville, for over 50 years, and volunteered to serve at funeral luncheons, holiday bazaars and rummage sales. Doris enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and the United States. As a military wife she moved frequently. The best way to describe Doris is that she was a spirited, independent, kind, generous and loving woman who would do anything to help you if she could. She will be greatly missed.
Graveside services will be held at the Montoursville Cemetery on Tuesday March 18, 2025, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Larry Leland officiating.
