Dakota M. MacGill, 26, of Nisbet died tragically as a result of a kayaking accident June 7, 2025 on the Loyalsock Creek, Dakota died while helping to save his best friend Nate and Nate’s son Noah.
Dakota was born in Williamsport on March 11, 1999, the son of Michael J. and Heather L. (Harris) MacGill.
He had attended South Williamsport High School and was a 2018 graduate of Commonwealth Charter Academy. Dakota had been employed at Muncy Homes and while a volunteer at Montoursville Cemetery became close to the cemetery staff. An outdoorsman, he had been a member of Boy Scout Troop 7, he enjoyed camping, kayaking, hiking and fishing. Always a quiet person, he was known to have an infectious laugh.
Surviving are his mother, Heather of Nisbet; his sister, Savannah MacGill; paternal grandmother, Maggie R. MacGill; maternal grandparents, Scott and Jackie (Eiswerth) Harris; uncle, Jeff (Kim) MacGill all of Nisbet and uncle, Heath (Wendy) Harris of Selinsgrove.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael J MacGill; grandfather Clyde E. MacGill, and Uncle John E. MacGill.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00am on Monday, June 16, 2025 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 100 Walnut St., Montoursville, PA 17754 with Rev. Michael McCormick officiating. Burial will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery.
The family will receive friends and family from 6:00-8:00pm Sunday, June 15, 2025 at the Crouse Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 133 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be made in Dakota’s name to National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) North Central PA, P.O. Box 412, Montoursville PA, 17754.
