Carol J. Smith, 83, of Cogan Station, died Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at UPMC Williamsport. She was the widow of Kenneth E. Smith, Sr., who died July 12, 2001.

Born October 24, 1940, in Muncy Valley, she was a daughter of the late Rolland and Ethel (Phillips) Boatman. Carol was a graduate of Sonestown High School. Early in her career, she worked at Montgomery Mills, and then was employed at Lesser Shoes in Williamsport for many years. She retired from Neece Paper Company of Williamsport. Carol loved to do crossword and sudoku puzzles. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and working in her flower garden.

Surviving is a son, Randy (Kathy) Mattern, of Analomink; three grandchildren, Jessica Mattern, Stacey Mattern, and Jamie Mattern; two great grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Koch, of Sonestown.

In addition to her parents and husband, Carol was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth E. Smith, Jr.; four sisters, Violet Masteller, Marjorie Houseknecht, Lorraine Phillips, Phyllis Boatman; and an infant brother.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Pastor Marty Coffee officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home on Thursday.

Interment in Elimsport Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family.
