Carl Otto Hieber, 86, of Williamsport, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 16, 2024 at the Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital.
Born March 29, 1939, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Charles Hieber and Shirley Pratt.
Carl was a proud graduate of the Williamsport Area High School, class of 1957, and went on to receive a BA degree in Mathematics from Lycoming College in 1963. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a successful career at Merrill Lynch, where he dedicated 36 years of service before retiring.
Beyond his work, Carl was deeply involved in his community as a member of the Plankenhorn Foundation. His passion for sports was evident to all who knew him. He was a supporter of Notre Dame football and cherished his time playing baseball at the Original Little League in his youth. Carl’s love for the game led him to coach at Brandon Little League for many years, and he was a proud uncle at the Little League World Series. He also enjoyed golfing and was a member of the White Deer Retiree Golf League.
Carl was an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, he lived out his beliefs through service, including traveling to Honduras and Africa on dental mission trips. These experiences were a reflection of his generous spirit and desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
Surviving is his loving wife of 62 years, Beverly L. (Lloyd) Hieber, and their three children, Michael (Carole), Eric (Kathy), and Jeffrey Hieber. His seven grandchildren, Brett, Eric, Mairin, Brianna, Adelyn, Dylan, and Bridget, along with his four great-grandchildren, will remember him for his unwavering support and the joy he brought to their lives. He is also survived by his brother-in-law David Lloyd, nephews, Craig and Stephen Lloyd, and his niece, Shirley Alberts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jonna Alberts and a sister-in-law Shirley Lloyd.
A memorial service to honor the life of Carl will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 5 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church 142 Market St, Williamsport, with Pastor Brian Vasey officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Residential Heath and the staff at Williamsport Hospital and the Gatehouse Hospice Center, with special gratitude to Dr. Matthew Meeker and Dr. Lee Ciccarelli for their compassionate care during Carl’s final days.
