Carl D. “Chip” Rutan, II, 56

Carl D. “Chip” Rutan, II, 56, of Linden, died peacefully with his family by his side Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital.

Born August 24, 1961 in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Carl. D. Rutan and Bernadine (Miller) Carr of South Williamsport.  Carl and his soulmate Melanie A. (Artley) Rutan were married on September 14, 1997 and had spent 39 years together.

Carl was a graduate of South Williamsport High School.  He retired as a truck driver from Betz Trucking in 2010.  Following retirement he worked part-time at Willard Battery.  He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Williamsport.  He was a drummer for several bands over the years.  Carl loved riding motorcycles and enjoyed racing for Steve Shaffer Motorsports.  He loved his fur-babies, Sweet Pea, Ripple and Jed.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are his three children; Carl is survived by three children; Nicole Zarzyczny-Fulger (Dean), Carl D. Rutan, III (Amanda), Cheryl Hoffman (Bob) all of Williamsport; six grandchildren, Madison Fulger, Hayden Zarzyczny, Austin Fulger, Carl D. Rutan, IV, Abigail Rutan and Olive Breeze Lain, a sister Kathy Cook of Linden, a brother Owen Rutan of South Williamsport, and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 6 – 7 p.m., Thursday, June 14, at St. John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church, 2101 Newberry St., Williamsport.   A Memorial service will follow at 7 p.m.,  the family will also receive friends following the service.
