Betty Yarrison Wagner, 100

Betty Yarrison Wagner, age 100, daughter of Fred and Olga Overdorf Yarrison, was born in Booneville, PA, on January 8, 1923, and passed from this life on January 30, 2023. She and her husband, John Wagner, of Williamsport, PA, were married in Heights Christian Church in Houston, TX on June 24, 1948. John predeceased Betty on February 17, 2007 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, where they lived for 40 years.

Betty graduated from Sugar Valley Vocational High School in 1939, Seitengers Beauty School in 1941, and was employed at Knox Beauty Shop for 2 years in Williamsport PA. During WWII she was employed as a monitor and instructor at Sylvania Electric Products in Montoursville, PA. Later she served as a receptionist and PBX operator at the Williamsport American Red Cross. Betty worked in a similar capacity at the American Cancer Society of Houston, TX. In Florida, Betty held the position of secretary/treasurer for 25 years in the family business, Sheet Metal Fabricators of Ft. Lauderdale.

While living in Williamsport, Betty was a student of George Eddinger art classes and exhibited works at Ways Garden. While living in Fort Lauderdale, she studied under Howland Parker, renowned artist and sculptor, and exhibited works with the Broward Art Guild. She received honorable mention at the 1968 Museum of the Arts annual exhibit.

Betty was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Booneville, PA, and transferred to Immanuel Lutheran Reformed Church in Williamsport. She became a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Ft Lauderdale where she assisted in organizing the Willis Boughton Library. Upon her return to her place of birth, she resumed membership at St. John Lutheran Church.

Family of John and Betty are as follows: Janice Abbott (Jerome), Linda Shiro (Michael), and Frederic (Kerri McCurtain) Wagner. Grandchildren: Coja Yamashita, Amber Wolthers (Clayton), Johnathan Yamashita (Heather Weaver), Steven Shiro (Lauren Lepold), Suzanne (Brendan) Murphy, Sean Wagner, and Erin Wagner. Great-grandchildren: Henry Shiro, Charlie Shiro, Logan Murphy, Liam Murphy, Kohana Yamashita, Henry Yamashita, Raven Wolthers, and River Wolthers.

A viewing will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, 1450 West Valley Road, Loganton, Pa, from 9:30 to 10:30 am on Saturday, February 4, 2023. Betty’s funeral service will follow at 10:30 am with the Rev. Karl W. Runser III officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
