Betty J. Wertz, 92, a resident of Montgomery, PA, passed away on Saturday afternoon, October 3, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. Born at the family farm in Point Township, Sunbury, Northumberland Co., PA on October 26, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Kathryn (Saxon) Rohrbach.
She was the wife of Harold J. Wertz with whom she celebrated her 56th wedding anniversary on November 16, 2001. They spent many years fishing at Keuka Lake, NY and locally at the Montgomery Boat Club where they enjoyed their family, friends, campers, boats and pavilion.
Betty attended Sunbury area schools. She worked at the Montgomery Mills, Hills Department Store and retired from the State Correctional Institution at Muncy as a Sergeant in 1989.
Betty was known by several names to her grandchildren, Mum Mum, Nana, Punkin and Nan. She was full of life and would frequently be the center of attention as she brought joyous laughs throughout the room. We never knew what she may say and we loved every bit of advice she ever gave us. Her longtime caregivers, Christie and Annette had many adventures and would go out of their way to take care of her and give in to all her special requests. She crocheted many blankets and scarves. She was quite the card shark and you’d have to pay close attention when playing a game of rummy with her. She also raised and bred poodles for many years.
She is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, C. Thomas and Patricia Wertz, Harrisburg, PA; Lanny and Sharon Wertz, Montgomery, PA; 1 daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Timothy Roan, Turbotville, PA; 8 grandchildren, Heidi Haas, Megan Johnson, Heather Wertz, Holly Wertz, Paula Stahl, Casey Roan, Levi Roan, Spencer Roan and 9 great-grandchildren, Chelsy Felton, Carly Stahl, Cortney Elliott, Rachel and Rebecca Haas, Emory and Madelynn Barton, Judah Roan and Riley Roan . She was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Charles, Kenneth, Francis, William, Sidney, Edward and 2 sisters, Mabel Pick and Norine Keyser, her older daughter, Lana Shook and 1 granddaughter, Renee Wertz.
The family will have a private celebration of life at a later date. Please visit http://www.betzerfuneral.com to sign the guest book or send an e-condolence
