Barbara A. “Barb” Dougherty, 83, of Williamsport passed away Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021 at ManorCare Health Services North. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Newton P. Dougherty, and is survived by her second husband, William E. Dougherty.
Born June 12, 1937 in Jersey Shore, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Susan A. (Lauver) Ritz.
Barb was a stay-at-home mom. She cherished taking care of her children, grandchildren, and babysitting for friends and family. She was a member of the VFW Post 3428, Muncy and VFW Post 7452, Montgomery, American Legion Post 268, Muncy and American Legion Post 251, Montgomery. Barb loved cats and enjoyed watching game shows including her favorite, Jeopardy. In her younger years Barb and her sisters were called the “Ritz Sisters” and enjoyed singing and playing music together.
Surviving are a son, William J. Dougherty, of Milton; three daughters, Brenda L. King (Ricky), of Montgomery, Teresa M. Cooper (Tim), of Hughesville, Nicole R. Bender (Craig), of South Carolina; eight grandchildren, Ricky, Jennifer, Brandy, Bobbi Lynn, Paul, Faith, Jacklyn and Brian; five great-grandchildren, Ava, Taylor, Carter, Brielle and Isaiah; and a sister, Shirley Stradley, of Lock Haven.
In addition to her first husband and parents she was preceded in death by a son, Newton P. Dougherty Jr., and a sister, Sylvia Eldred.
Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Barb’s name to the Lycoming Animal Protection Society, 195 Phillips Park Drive, South Williamsport, PA 17702.
