Arlene R. Opp, 94, of Muncy, died Saturday, January 20, 2024 at her home.
Born April 8, 1929 in Montgomery, she was a daughter of the late A. Frank and Zora (Harman) Reaser. On April 28, 1951 she married James R. Opp, who preceded her in death Feb. 19, 2001, 2 months shy of their 50th wedding anniversary.
Arlene was a graduate of the former Montgomery Clinton High School and the Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse; and during her career, practiced at Muncy Valley and Divine Providence Hospitals and also was employed for several years at the State Correctional Institute in Muncy.
Arlene was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Muncy, where she served on many committees and as a member of the Ad Council. She was previously a member of Clarkstown United Methodist Church, where she was the choir director for 15 years. Arlene was a certified lay speaker for the United Methodist Church and assisted the pastor with home communions for shut ins. She and her husband did work camps for the Methodist Church and also for Global Outreach Mission in New York. Jim and Arlene were a team in Africa, Germany and South America. He was the head of construction and she was the nurse.
She served on the Auxiliary of the Gideon’s International for many years and did volunteer work at Son Light House, Red Cross, Meals on Wheels and Bridge Haven, a prison ministry. Arlene’s favorite things were traveling, the beach and Broadway.
Surviving are a niece, Roberta Mitchell, of Ocean Grove, NJ; and two nephews, Frank Reaser, of Cedar Grove, NJ and James Reaser, of Sinking Spring, PA.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church, 602 S. Market St., Muncy, with the Rev. Richard Robinson, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Muncy Cemetery.
