Arlene D. Rizzo, 89

Arlene D. Rizzo, 89, of Muncy, died Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at the Muncy Valley Skilled Nursing Unit.

Born September 15, 1930 in Hazleton, she was a daughter of the late Bernard and Edith Kandarczyk. On November 27, 1952 she married Anthony G. “Tony” Rizzo, who survives. Together they celebrated 66 years of marriage.

Arlene was a 1948 graduate of West Hazleton High School. She received her RN degree three years later from the former Hazleton State General Hospital School of Nursing. Arlene worked several years at the Hazleton State General Hospital and in private duty nursing. After marriage, she dedicated more of her time to raising her family.

Arlene loved history and was especially interested in the Civil War. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and most importantly, spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Donnamarie Ellis, of Florida, and Terry Abernatha and her husband, Ken, of Williamsport; one brother, Richard Kandarcyzk and his wife, Dolly, of Chambersburg; two grandchildren, Toni-Marie (John) Gosizk and Brittany Ellis; one great-grandchild, Laura Gosizk; and five step grandchildren, Stephen, Jenny, Andrew, Crista and Addison.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Bernard and Robert; two sisters, Dorothy and one in infancy; and a son-in-law, Steven Ellis.

Friends will be received from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Resurrection, 75 Musser Lane, Muncy, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. with her pastor, the Rev. Glenn McCreary officiating.

Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions in Arlene’s memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at http://www.alz.org.
