Anne Welling Knox, 91, of Muncy, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 23, 2024at the Gatehouse, Williamsport, surrounded by her children.
Born February 24, 1933 in Charleston, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Edwin and Louise (Moore) Welling. On July 31,1953 she married John G. “Jack” Knox III who died on November 22, 2005. Together they celebrated 52 years of marriage.
Anne was a graduate of Memminger High School in South Carolina, and later graduated with an RN degree from the Medical College of South Carolina. She did nursing work at various hospitals in her younger years. Anne later worked for 25 years in the Emergency Room at the Muncy Valley Hospital and retired as the Employee Health nurse at the former Williamsport Hospital, now UPMC.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Muncy, for over 50 years, and founded the Widow’s Mite which she led for 15 years and continued involvement with until her death.
Anne spent her life passionately caring for others, a true servant leader. She assisted with meals on wheels, and was a volunteer at both the Gatehouse and the American Cancer Society. Anne was also the founder of the Hat Ladies of Lycoming County.
Anne was a prolific writer and often found herself expressing her thoughts with pencil and paper. She published a book titled Ms. Knox’s Box. Anne also enjoyed painting.
Surviving are three children, Cindy (Jim) Craddock, of Muncy, Edwin (Dennie) Knox, of Centreville, VA, and John (Karen) Knox, of Herndon, VA; one sister, Betty McMichael, of Charleston, SC; seven grandchildren, Sia Walker (Scott) Griffith, Aaron (Brynn) Walker, Ian Walker, Dani Knox, Sami Knox, Zachary Knox and Matthew Knox; and three great-grandchildren, Kaiden Knox Tramontana, Avery Griffith and Henry Griffith.
Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, at the First United Methodist Church, 602 S. Market St., Muncy, where a Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Richard Robinson and Pastor Kathy Burkhart, officiating. The family encourages attendees to wear a fashionable hat in Anne’s memory. Many of Anne’s hats from her extensive collection will also be provided to attendees as her gift.
Burial will be held privately by the family in Muncy Cemetery.
The family suggests contributions in Anne’s memory be made to the First United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, 602 S. Market St. Muncy, PA 17756.
