Ann Marie Gehret, 70, of Williamsport, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 15, 2024, at the Gatehouse, surrounded by her family. Surviving is her loving and devoted husband of 44 years, Donald D. Gehret.
Born June 27, 1953, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Leon M. Steppe Jr. and Grace I. (Salvatori) Steppe.
Ann was a 1971 graduate of the Williamsport Area High School and received her associates degree from the former Williamsport Area Community College in Human Resources and later took business courses at Lock Haven University. Ann began working at the Lycoming County Courthouse in the late 1970’s where she served as Human Resources Director until her retirement in 2019. From 2010 to 2015 she also worked as the Director of Administration.
Ann was a graduate of Leadership Lycoming and served as chairman in 2003 and 2004. She was a member of the American Women’s Association and the West Branch Human Resources Society. During her employment at the courthouse Ann began a group called “Happy Feet” and they walked around town during their lunch breaks.
Ann was a faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Montoursville. In her younger years she was a devoted soccer Mom and enjoyed cheering on her son, Nick. Ann enjoyed an annual family vacation to Cape May, New Jersey, working in her herb garden, and cooking Italian food. In her spare time Ann could be found shopping at small businesses in downtown Williamsport and was passionate about supporting Williamsport and Lycoming County. Most of all Ann loved her grandchildren and spoiled them with every chance she had.
Surviving in addition to her husband, is her son, Nicholas D. Gehret (Jackie) of Camp Hill; two grandchildren, Sophia and Hunter; a brother, Ronald E. Steppe (Diane) of Williamsport; a sister, Kimberly A. Whittington of Williamsport; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Lee Whittington.
A memorial service to honor the life of Ann will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 20 at Sanders Mortuary 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport with the Rev. Michael S. McCormick officiating. A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of service at Sanders Mortuary.
Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Montoursville Cemetery.
