Alton William Harmon, 85
Alton William Harmon, 85, of Jersey Shore, formerly of Casselberry, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. Surviving is his loving wife of 62 years, Jacqueline (Tietbohl) Harmon whom he married August 3, 1963.

Born on December 23, 1940, in Coudersport, he was the son of the late Ethan R. and Leola E. (Bray) Harmon.

He was a 1958 graduate of Williamsport High School. Following graduation, Al proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, including three years stationed in Germany. Upon returning home, he continued his education at Lock Haven University, earning his bachelor’s degree in 1968. Al built a successful and respected career as a Programmer Analyst, working with multiple banking software companies before retiring from First Data Corporation. Known for his remarkable intelligence, Al often thought far ahead of others, so much so that his ideas seemed to outpace even his own handwriting.

A man deeply committed to service and community, Al was a devoted member of F. & A.M. Ivy Lodge #106, where he served as Past Master and maintained over 60 years of membership. His dedication extended through the three York Rite bodies, where he served as a presiding officer.  He was honored as a recipient of the Grand Cross of Color from the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. Al also served his community as a volunteer member of the Board of Adjustments and served six years as City Commissioner in Casselberry, Florida.

Al found great joy in the outdoors. He cherished annual trips to West Virginia hunting with friends and days spent in the Pennsylvania woods with family. In his quieter moments, he could often be found on the golf course, enjoying the warm Florida sunshine and the camaraderie of the game. He found great joy on the softball field and cherished the many fun and competitive moments spent playing racquetball alongside his friend Wally.

Those who knew Al will remember his warm eyes, brilliant smile, and kind, thoughtful nature. He was a man who always put others first. Above all, Al loved his family. He found immense happiness in time spent with his beloved wife, Jackie and daughter, Cheryl and he shared a special bond with his sisters. He treasured gatherings with his extended family and held a deep affection for his nieces and nephews.

Surviving in addition to his wife is their daughter, Cheryl L. Fields of Jersey Shore; sisters, Linda Harbach of Larryville and Denise Bergenstock of Williamsport; a brother-in-law, Donald Tietbohl and his wife, Ellen of York; and numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great, nieces and nephews, many cousins and beloved friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Desmond J. Fields and two brothers-in-law, Phillip Harbach and Wayne Bergenstock.

A memorial service to honor Alton’s life will be announced at a later date.
