Aletha M. Wright, 91, of Lewisburg, died Dec. 9, 2018, at her residence with her loving family by her side.
She was born Dec. 29, 1926, in Rose Valley, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Pearl (Heim) Bower. As a youth, Aletha was a member of Rose Valley Church. She was a graduate of Montoursville Area High School, where she served on the yearbook staff. Upon graduation, she worked in the Treasury Department in Washington, DC, and a munitions factory in Rhode Island during WWII.
In addition to her career as a bookkeeper, she and her husband operated their family dairy farm in Allenwood. She enjoyed puzzles, boating, fishing, and family gatherings. She was an avid reader and letter writer, and her interest in family history was reflected in her collection of photographs and records. She also took great pride in her flower gardening and homemade apple butter.
A talented musician, she played the cordovox for a range of venues, including firehall and barn round and square dances, community festivals and centennial celebrations, weddings, and banquets. She also played the piano for White Deer Valley Baptist Church. Aletha M. Wright, 91
In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her husband, Donald R. Wright; three sisters, Eleanor Kepner, Helen Ulmer, and Ruth Monse; and a brother, John Bower.
Surviving are four sons, Donald L. (Darla) Wright, of Muncy, David L. (Melody)Wright, of Littleton, CO, Dennis R. (Sharon) Wright of Muncy, and Drew W. (Christianne) Wright, of Winfield,; a daughter, Darlene S. (Charles) Volchansky, of Winfield; 12 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with Chaplain Robert D. Barner officiating. Burial will follow in Montoursville Cemetery. A viewing for family and friends will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
