Library to Host Summer Learning Kickoff Event With Special Surprises

The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., will kick off the 2024 Summer Learning Program with special activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15.

The Library’s Summer Learning Program is an opportunity to keep children engaged in reading and learning over the summer, whether at home or in the Library.

This year’s theme is “Adventure Begins at Your Library” and during the kickoff, the Library will feature character meet-and-greets provided by the Enchanted Teapot, a performance by Celtic Wood and Wires band from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., along with fun games, free books, and prizes.

During the event, Summer Learning Adventure Passports will be distributed, which is how families can track their summer learning progress and turn it in at the finale on August 10 for a special sweet treat and ride on the Hiawatha.

Families can also pick up a copy of the free Summer Learning special section published by the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, which highlights the major programs taking place at all six libraries within the Lycoming County Library System.

Additional events scheduled during June include:
– June 17 – RiverWalk Adventures with Book’s Bus, 9:30 a.m., RiverWalk Parking, 1324 Commerce Park Drive.
– June 17 – Fire Safety with Smokey Bear, 5 p.m.
