The Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Museum is one of the finest cultural assets in northcentral Pennsylvania. It preserves and highlights Lycoming County and the surrounding area’s rich history.
In a bid to improve bringing this precious cultural asset to more people, the museum has launched a digital guide.
They have done this through Bloomberg Connects, the free arts and cultural app created by Bloomberg Philanthropies. The Bloomberg Connects app, available for download from Google Play or the App Store, makes the Taber Museum accessible for either onsite or offsite visits through photos, audio, and video.
More than 300 cultural institutions around the globe are featured on the Bloomberg Connects app. The app platform is part of Bloomberg Philanthropies’ longstanding commitment to supporting digital innovation in the arts. Bloomberg Connects makes it easy to access and engage with arts and culture from mobile devices when visiting in person or anytime from anywhere.
Officials at the Taber Museum are pleased with this latest innovation that the Museum is now a part of.
Seth Burch, president of the Board of Governors of the Taber Museum, told Webb Weekly, “Whether it’s your first trip to the Taber or you are a frequent visitor, Bloomberg Connects adds so much to your experience. For example, in the 20th Century Room, you’ll see a horse-drawn steam-operated fire engine with a brief description. When you are standing in front of the fire engine using Bloomberg Connects, you get a detailed description of how the engine worked, where the firemen rode, and how the machine operated to pump the water through the hoses. You can see each aspect of the engine following the description, which allows you to imagine how the firefighters did their job. Bloomberg Connects also features many displays, like the Victorian Room, with detailed narrated descriptions of what you are seeing. It’s like having a private guided tour of the museum. Did you know the chandelier in the Victorian Room was made in France, shipped to Philadelphia, and came to Williamsport using the canal system? And why is there a stuffed Peacock in the back of the room? Whether you use the app while visiting or use it visiting virtually, Bloomberg Connects allows you to have a more informative and enjoyable trip through Lycoming County’s history.”
The Taber Museum will be participating in the “Raise the Region” fundraiser on March 13 and 14. That fundraiser will be a good opportunity to show the museum support.
