Finally, gardening season is upon us! Last week my son was working with me in the garden. He was watching me prepare the garden and plant my herbs. When I gave him the tray and asked if he wanted to plant the rest, his eyes lit up, and he went to work. I was excited that he was interested in something I am so passionate about, and that we could share this experience.
When he was finished planting, we checked on the other vegetable plants. I showed him how to use a small cultivator, carefully loosening the soil around each plant to avoid damaging the stem or roots. As we worked, we talked about each plant, how it grows, and how we could prepare the vegetables to eat.
Teaching someone how to garden is a great way to bond with a friend or family member. With the kids finishing up school for the year, gardening can be a great outlet for extra energy while learning a skill they can use for the rest of their lives. Gardening provides exercise and promotes healthy eating. It takes you away from your electronics and outside into the sunshine. #70
