The Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society will host a Children’s Workshop on butterflies, featuring Rick Mikula, on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at 2:00pm, in the Community Room. The program is free and open to the public. Adults and families are encouraged to attend. Museum personnel are requesting registration, simply to provide enough chairs for the event.

Rick’s butterfly program will show anyone how to nurture and enjoy garden butterflies and moths by using the simplest of recycled household items. Raising butterflies is a great family summertime activity that will yield wonderful memories for years to come. His presentations are fast-paced, high energy and very humorous and include a large display of the most beautiful and unusual mounted butterflies and moths, all of which died of natural causes. The high point of every presentation are the ‘Live’ butterflies that are displayed in homemade cages. So, visit with Rick and learn everything you never knew about butterflies and how you can care for them at home. Here’s your chance! This workshop is the second program given by Mikula recently at the museum. At the last event, sixty-five people attended.

Considered to be the funniest butterfly expert in the world Rick Mikula has been raising butterflies and delighting audiences with his offbeat and humorous programs for over 40 years. He is currently President of Butterfly Rescue International, a founding member and past president of the International Butterfly Breeders Association, and past Vice President of the Canadian Butterfly Breeders and Exhibitors and past Secretary and Treasurer for the New Jersey Lepidopterist Society. Butterfly Rick has written several books including the award winning “The Family Butterfly Book” and served as staff writer for several magazines including People Places and Plants, Organic Gardening and Environment Pennsylvania. He has appeared on many TV shows including Animal Planet, The Weather Channel, The Discovery Channel, Home and Garden, and served as consultant for many others including CSI Las Vegas and the David Blaine Street Magic specials. He has also designed several live butterfly exhibits and served as a habitat consultant to many schools, museums, and zoos. Rick is also the pioneer of releasing butterflies at weddings and funerals.
