The Junior League of Williamsport’s Cinderella’s Closet has found a new home at the YWCA Northcentral PA. The YWCA and the Junior League will work together during the event to create an uplifting, positive environment for teenagers to find their prom essentials.

This year high school juniors and seniors are required to make a 30-minute appointment to find a gown, shoes and accessories for prom.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 23 and 2 to 6 p.m. on March 24 are the two days teenagers can register to try on gowns to find the perfect match. Students must bring a valid student ID to shop. They may bring one female adult guest with them if they desire.

“Thanks to Cinderella’s Closet, young women in Lycoming County who otherwise could not afford to go or would have difficulty affording to go to prom now have that option,” said DeHotman.

The cost to receive the royal treatment is between $10 and $15, which benefits the YWCA’s two programs Wise Options and Liberty House. Wise Options offers free services to all people who are survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault or other violent crimes. Liberty House is a program for women and women with children who are experiencing homelessness.

There will be racks filled with modern gowns of all sizes so every girl has the opportunity to find she can feel beautiful and confident.

Every participant will be paired with a fairy godmother who is a volunteer who will walk them through the process.

“Our fairy godmothers… want nothing more than to make each young lady feel like the princess she is while finding her dream dress,” she said. “They will help our Cinderellas search the racks for gown options, set up the fitting rooms, offer kind feedback and encouragement, answer questions and assist with check out.”

We are accepting donations of gowns, which can be brought to the YWCA during our business hours on Mondays-Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We are always in need of plus size and very small sized dresses.
