Anyone who knows me knows that I love to read. I have a penchant for sappy romance novels. They are usually full of ridiculous, over-the-top tropes and always end with a HEA (Happily Ever After).
Something about the fall makes me want to change up my usual reading with something different. Now, usually, this leads me to re-reading the Harry Potter series. But this year I decided to change it up.
I’ll admit I’ve fallen for the media hype. So the two new books on my fall reading list this year are Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan, and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han.
Crazy Rich Asians is a New York Times bestseller that has recently become a hit in the movie theaters. Both the book and the movie have received a ton of accolades, and I’m looking forward to starting this book. If you haven’t heard the plotline yet, here’s the rundown — When New Yorker Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home and quality time with the man she hopes to marry. But Nick has failed to give his girlfriend a few key details. One, that his childhood home looks like a palace; two, that he grew up riding in more private planes than cars; and three, that he just happens to be the country’s most eligible bachelor.
On Nick’s arm, Rachel may as well have a target on her back the second she steps off the plane, and soon, her relaxed vacation turns into an obstacle course of old money, new money, nosy relatives, and scheming social climbers.
Crazy Rich Asians is actually a trilogy of books, so I plan on reading them all this fall.
Next up is To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. This has recently been turned into a Netflix original movie and has become super popular in that regard, as well as being a New York Times bestseller.
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before tells the story of sixteen-year-old Lara Jean Song keeps her love letters in a hatbox her mother gave her. They aren’t love letters that anyone else wrote for her; these are ones she’s written. One for every boy she’s ever loved — five in all. When she writes, she pours out her heart and soul and says all the things she would never say in real life, because her letters are for her eyes only. Until the day her secret letters are mailed, and suddenly, Lara Jean’s love life goes from imaginary to out of control. What if all the crushes you ever had found out how you felt about them…all at once?
I haven’t started either of these books yet, so I’ll have to fill you in on my opinions later. If you notice though, both of these books have romantic undertones, so I’m sure I’ll be happy reading them.
Because fall is coming, that means Halloween is right around the corner. While some people choose to watch horror movies, I like to pick up a good thriller. My go-to for years has been James Patterson. His books have a way of drawing me in, and despite scaring the crap out of me regularly, I still can’t help but keep reading. So, I’ll also be reading his latest release Texas Ranger, which tells the story of Ranger Rory Yates — Across the ranchlands and cities of his home state, Rory Yates’s discipline and law-enforcement skills have carried him far: from local highway patrolman to the honorable rank of Texas Ranger. He arrives in his hometown to find a horrifying crime scene and a scathing accusation: he is named a suspect in the murder of his ex-wife, Anne, a devoted teacher whose only controversial act was ending her marriage to a Ranger.
In search of the killer, Yates plunges into the inferno of the most twisted and violent minds he’s ever encountered, vowing to never surrender. That code just might bring him out alive.
So what are you reading this fall? Head to Facebook and let me know! Maybe I’ll have to add to my reading list!
