Grit Publishing Company held an “open house” yesterday afternoon when more than 500 people including the family and friends of employees, visited and inspected the plant at West Third and William Streets. Since the installation of the new Hoe double sextuple in the new building on William Street, some months ago, Grit has remodeled, redecorated and enlarged a number of departments. These alterations have been in progress for almost a year, and with their completion Grit has achieved one of the most modern newspaper and engraving plants in this section of the United States.

The employees of the company inspected the plant between 10 and 12 o’clock yesterday. Many of the group had not seen the entire plant since the repairs were made.

Visitors freely expressed their enthusiasm and interest as they were conducted through the large newspaper establishment.

Dietrick Lamade, president and general manager, greeted personally many of those who came to see Grit in operation. All registered in the business office on the first floor and were presented with linotype slugs carrying their names when they reached the company room on the third floor.

Refreshments were served during the afternoon in the mailing room. The first floor of the new building is the pressroom, the second floor, selling room and on the third floor are the new stereotype machines. Groups of 12 were taken through Grit by employees who explained work in the various departments, while the engraving department is housed in modern and enlarged quarters in the back of the building.

The editorial department on the third floor has been completed for some time and is located in the front part of the building.

The circulation department on the second floor has been given more space.

The first floor business office and job department remain the same.
