Debra L. “Deb” Bashnick, 77

Debra L. “Deb” Bashnick, 77, of Williamsport, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Friday, October 2, 2026.

Born April 27, 1949, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late William K. Smith and Connie W. Dawson.

Deb was a 1967 graduate of Williamsport Area High School. For many years, she worked as a cashier at Walmart, where she was truly one of the store’s smiling faces. Her friendly personality and warm smile made her a familiar face to countless customers throughout the years.

She was preceded in death by her longtime companion of 40 years, Steverson Elmo Childress, on May 18, 2022. Together, they shared four decades of life, family, and memories.

Deb was a member of First Church, Williamsport.

Above everything else in her life, Deb loved being a mom and Nana. Her family meant the world to her, and there was nothing she treasured more than spending time with those she loved. She had a special way of making family time important, whether it was a gathering, a trip, or simply an ordinary evening together.

Deb also loved shopping, traveling, and spending time at the beach. She enjoyed playing cards on Fridays, a tradition she looked forward to each week.

Surviving are three sons, Brian P. Bashnick (Susan) of Williamsport, Keith E. Bashnick (Diane Freynik) of South Williamsport, and Heath W. Bashnick (Amber Dissinger) of Williamsport; 8 grandchildren, Megan Derenick (Matthew), Tanner Bashnick (Meghan), Paige Bashnick, Sofia Bashnick, Olivia Bashnick, Skylar Bashnick, Ryan Bashnick, and Sydney Newcomer (Zane); her great-grandchildren, Jaqueline Bashnick, Amelia Derenick, Audrey Derenick, Hayze Newcomer, Tanner Bashnick, Jr., Posey Davis, and Crew Newcomer; and two brothers, Robert Charles Smith and William Daniel Smith.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
