David H. Solomon, 86, of Montgomery, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, September 28, 2026.
Born May 13, 1940, in Williamsport, David was the son of the late Mary C. Solomon. He was lovingly raised by his grandmother, Catherine Solomon.
David earned his automotive certificate from Williamsport Technical Institute and went on to work for many years as a heavy equipment operator. A hardworking man throughout his life, David was never afraid to take on an odd job or lend his skills wherever they were needed, always doing what he could to provide for his family. He owned and operated Dave’s Family Restaurant in Montgomery.
During his younger years, David had an adventurous spirit that took him all the way to Alaska, where he enjoyed gold mining. His love of traveling continued throughout his life, and he treasured the experiences and memories made along the way.
David was a member of Lycoming Valley Baptist Church. At heart, he was what he proudly considered a “plain old country boy.” He enjoyed the simple things in life, including watching hummingbirds, listening to old country music, traveling, and spending time with the people he loved most.
Lighthearted by nature, David was a jokester who always knew how to lighten the mood and make those around him feel a little better. He never met a stranger and had a way of making people feel welcome with his friendly personality and sense of humor. He also shared a special bond with his best buddy, Alena, whose companionship brought him great happiness. Above all else, Dave loved his family.
Surviving is his loving wife of 48 years, Susan M. (Gardner) Solomon; six children, Debbie A. Shearer (Donald) of West Pittson, James A. “Jig” Solomon of Trout Run, Tammy L. Thomas (Christopher) of Elimsport, Jason M. Solomon of Williamsport, Bobbie Jo Martino (Michael) of Gibertsville, and Nick J. Solomon (Tiffany) of Hughesville; a daughter-in-law, Catherine Solomon, of Knoxville; grandchildren, Sonya, Brittani, Daulton, Brandi, Jacob, Harley, Axel, Christopher, Craig, Samantha, Josh, Kyler, Bryce, Brody, and Hudson; great grandchildren, Naomi, Jensen, Liam, Oaklyn, Sophia, Jayce, Jantz, Jaelynn and Marie.
In addition to his mother and grandmother, David was preceded in death by a son, David M. Solomon; and three brothers, Don, Kenny, and Bill.
A funeral service to honor David’s life will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, October 1, at Lycoming Valley Baptist Church, 4980 Lycoming Mall Dr., Montoursville, PA 17754. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at church.
