If you aren’t familiar with the wonderful ministries and services the United Churches of Lycoming County (UCLC) has been providing our area for decades, you’ve been missing out. According to their website, the UCLC is a network of congregations that are Connected Through Faith and United in Service. Founded in 1946, they now have over 125 member congregations representing Protestant, Anglican, Roman Catholic, and Orthodox faith traditions. The UCLC is led by executive director Tammey Edkin, who seems to possess limitless energy. Tammey served as a youth pastor and senior pastor at First Church of Christ (Disciples) on Almond Street in Williamsport. For several years, she was a campus minister at Penn College for United Churches of Lycoming County, before becoming Executive Director.
The UCLC operates a Lycoming County Faith Community.
– They are people and congregations who care about our neighbors.
– They celebrate our unity through faith in action.
– They respect people and communities in their faith journeys.
– They believe in the broader mandate of Jesus to care in tangible ways; to feed the hungry, to give drink to the thirsty, to welcome the stranger, to clothe the naked, and to visit the sick and imprisoned.
– They facilitate cooperation and understanding on faith, life, and justice issues.
– They energize people by mobilizing congregations and communities in response to emerging needs.
The UCLC welcomes you to participate with congregations and individuals to provide ministry that touches the lives of school students, the elderly, the poor, the ill, and the prisoner.
Some of the UCLC ministries include:
– Shepherd of the Streets Ministry
– Food Pantry
– Campus Ministry
– Almost 900 Worship Services provided to area nursing homes and prisons.
– Editorials and Daily Devotions, available to give people hope.
– Newsletters, Podcasts, Lunches, and Services that connect and educate
– An Interfaith Dialogue commission helping us learn how to better live together in a more diverse world.

Wednesday, August 12: Art Contest
Otto Book Store is inviting 15 artists to display their work and be featured with a photo and biography throughout August, with winners announced in September. A second art contest will also be held in November, ensuring everyone gets a chance to participate.
Wednesday, August 19: World Photography Day
Celebrate World Photography Day by snapping a picture at their Polaroid photo booth to take home or display in the center, or by drawing your own artwork if you prefer.
Wednesday, August 26: International Dog Day
Celebrate International Dog Day with them by welcoming a special, friendly therapy dog to the center for cuddles, tail wags, and plenty of cheer. The therapy dog will be visiting at 1 p.m. Alongside their furry guest, you can be creative with a fun lineup of dog-themed crafts.
Items Needed for August:
If you are able and would like to support their center’s activities this month, they are currently collecting the following supplies:
– Plates
– Cups
– Napkins
– Polaroid film (Fujifilm Instant Film for Fujifilm Instax Mini — as many as possible)
– Decorations for the photo booth (any will do: streamers, masks, balloons, etc.)
– Storage totes with lids (any size)
The PA-Connect Adaptive Activities Center is a welcoming space for adults of all abilities. Enjoy billiards, gaming, crafts, themed events, and movies in a safe space.

Community Cooks Collective
Quarterly Cooking Class
To encourage and empower individuals to stretch their food budget while not sacrificing health and taste.
Date: Wed. August 12th
Time: 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Cost: Free
Location: 202 E. Third St., Williamsport

Attendees will leave with the recipe, ingredients needed, and a small kitchen appliance to prepare the meal again at home.
Strengthening Families Program
For parents and youth 10-14
Build stronger families in 7 evening sessions.
Help your family learn to manage your emotions, set goals, avoid peer pressure, make better decisions, and strengthen relationships. This program is evidence-based, helps reduce behavior problems, and prevents teen substance abuse.
Who: 10-14-year-olds and caregivers.
Where: Pine Street UMC, Williamsport
When: Tuesdays, 5:30-8 p.m., beginning Sept 15th.
