A group of citizens residing in the Vallamont section appeared this morning before a special session of City Council to register complaints against alleged health and safety hazards resulting from the periodic flooding of Grafius Run.

Spokesman for the group was Patrick H. Fierro. He presented a petition signed by the residents of the 12th and 14th Wards seeking for correction of the situation.

The menace to children from both drowning during a high-water event and the health menace arising from garbage dumped in the run, was placed foremost by the group to the council.

Another conference with the same group at which City Councilman Raymond R. Rall and City Engineer, Lyons Mussina will present approximate figures for the cost of enclosing the run was set for September 15 at 10:30 a.m.

It was pointed out that a dry-wall constructed along the run by the Works Progress Administration more than 10 years ago had since collapsed along some sections, raising the level of the run bed resulting in more frequent flooding during rainy periods.

Councilman Rall told the group that a large conduit had been planned to carry the section of water between Harvard Avenue and Louisa Street but that the cost of construction has removed the project from the immediate list.
