Robert “Bob” Phelan Sr., 79, of Montoursville, died Friday, June 19, 2026, peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and family.
Born February 13, 1947, in Milford, CT, he was the son of George and Dorothy (Duefrane) Phelan and the youngest of their four sons.
Bob attended Johnathan Law High School in Milford, CT before studying Accounting at Norwalk Tech and later Computer Programing at The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. After graduating Bob worked as a Computer Analysist with the Internal Revenue System and retired after several decades of service.
Bob loved his family and made it his life’s mission to be as present as possible in their lives even when working away. He always put his family first. Most may know him from being on the sidelines, in the stands, and filling auditorium seats to cheer his family on. Bob has always had a passion to help others. In his younger years he was a firefighter and part of the Water Response and Dive Team of Milford, CT. He loved a good joke and never turned down ice cream for dinner. Bob was known as a hard worker, a quiet listener, and an example of a great father, Pap, husband, and friend.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 52 years, Sharon Phelan, of Montoursville; two daughters, Kristine Phelan, of Montoursville, Katherine (Rajaeh Gordon-Somers) Phelan, of Montoursville; two sons, Brian (Jennifer) Phelan, of Fairbanks, AK, Robert (Shawna) Phelan Jr, of Odessa, TX; grandchildren, Dominick Phelan Pulizzi, Gabrielle (Evan Hamm) Phelan Pulizzi, Aayden Gordon-Somers, Alanna Phelan, Kasi Phelan, Hayley Phelan, Payton Phelan, Savannah Phelan, Robert Phelan III, Shelby (Luis) McCloskey Martinez, Daryan (Daniel) Horst, Makenze Milheim; great-grandchildren, Everleigh Milheim, Violet Milheim, Oliver Horst, Piper Horst, Millie Horst, Liliana Martinez, Giovanni Martinez; two extra special little girls Zoey and Norah; and many extended family members.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, George Phelan; mother, Dorothy Phelan; and three brothers, George Phelan, Thomas Phelan, Edward Phelan.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, Montoursville.
The family will provide the flowers and suggest memorial contributions may be sent to Willing Hand Hose Co. 1, Montoursville Station 20 in memory of Bob.
