Off on an Adventure!

If you are reading this, I’m already gone…

OK, that’s a little dramatic. I’m just on vacation.

It’s been a long time since I’ve taken this much time off, and honestly, I’m not sure what to do with myself.

Actually, that’s not quite true. I’ll be keeping busy, and it’s sure to be an adventure!

In my absence, a couple of Webb staffers have been doing a fantastic job learning my job and will be taking over for the June 3rd edition!

Jaimie has been learning how to lay out the paper, choose where the ads go, and figure out how many pages we’ll have.

Wes has been learning how to produce the paper and get everything ready for our printer.

They’ve been doing a fantastic job, and I’m sure they’ll have everything under control. You probably won’t even notice I’m gone!

You’ll also see a guest Editor next week! Weird Words and Movie Aficionado Joe Smith will be handling that part of my job for the week. He’ll make sure our writers are clear and grammatically correct. I bet he thought he was done editing when he retired!

Thanks to Jaimie, Wes, and Joe for making it so easy for me to leave! Don’t do too good a job, or I’ll want this every year!

I also want to thank all our amazing customers who worked ahead to help me wrap things up before I left!

Speaking of our great advertisers, if you usually work with me and haven’t scheduled anything for the 3rd yet, just reach out to Jimmy for whatever you need. He’ll take care of you! His number and email are listed to the left, but he’s not big on email, so it’s best to call him.

While I’m away, don’t forget to enter our Great American Cookout giveaway! We have some great prizes just in time for your Fourth of July celebration. The entry form is below!

You should also catch a Cutters’ game if you can. It’s a big year for Bowman, so come out and support the hometown team! The drone show on the 4th looks amazing. I usually watch the fireworks at Bowman from my front window or yard, so I’m hoping to see the drones too!

I have some cooking to do before I leave for the week and thought it would be rude to not share what I’m making. I’ll be making this relatively simple marinade for chicken, along with my famous cheeseburger mac & cheese (you can find that recipe at webbweekly.com, look for my article from 1/31/24, or search ‘cheeseburger mac’ in the search bar.
According to momtimeout.com where I found the recipe, this is:

The BEST Chicken Marinade

Ingredients:
• 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
• 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar or other vinegar
• 1/4 cup soy sauce
• 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
• 1/8 cup lemon juice
• 3/4 cup brown sugar
• 2 teaspoon dried rosemary
• 2 tablespoon Dijon mustard or Spicy Brown mustard
• 1 ½ teaspoons salt
• 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
• 2 teaspoon garlic powder
• 6 chicken breasts or 3.5 lb. chicken

Directions:

Combine all marinade ingredients in a large mixing bowl and whisk together. Remove a half a cup of marinade and reserve for basting the chicken later.

Place chicken in a large resealable bag and pour marinade over the top. Gently massage chicken breasts and be sure to close bag securely. (If you have less time, consider poking holes in the chicken with a fork to allow the marinade to penetrate quickly.)

Refrigerate chicken and marinate for at least 30 minutes and up to 24 hours. 4 to 6 hours is perfect.

If you bring the reserved marinade up to a boil, let simmer until slightly reduced, it makes a wonderful sauce to go on top of the chicken.

I hope y’all have a good week, and I’ll see you June 10th!
