Billie S. Mezzo Blakeney, 76, of Fishing Creek Twp., and formerly Augusta, New Jersey, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born July 12, 1949 in Norwalk, CT, she was a daughter of the late William S. and Irene (Wargo) Mezzo. On July 26, 1980 she married Warren L. Blakeney and together they celebrated 43 years of marriage until his passing on September 25, 2023.
Billie taught music in Sparta School District as well as Helen Morgan School in Sparta, New Jersey.
She was a sewist, quilter, machine embroiderer and collector of fabric and sewing supplies. Billie was a member of Quilters in Bloom quilt guild, and served as the PA State Coordinator for Quilts of Valor, providing quilt dedications to Veterans. Her biggest love in life was caring for her shelties, especially with their training and nose work. Billie was a member of the Methodist Church in NJ for 40 years. She was a church organist, played the bells, sang in the choir, vocalist and provided music lessons.
She is survived by three nieces, Renee (Tom) Blakeney Spisak, Michelle (Tom) Blakeney Spencer, and Darlene (Skip) Mercede Casazza; two nephews: Justin (Brenda) Blakeney, and David (Stephanie) DiNoi; great-nieces and nephews, Anson Spisak, Aimee Spisak, Brock Blakeney, Madelyn Blakeney, Cooper Spencer, Ariel DiNoi, and Alexandra DiNoi; and a brother and sister-in-law: Duane and Margaret Blakeney.
Besides her husband and parents, Billie was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth (Betty) DiNoi and Evelyn Mercede.
There will be a visitation held from Noon to 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Brooks Funeral Home & Cremation Svc PC, 207 Broadway Street, Turbotville, where a memorial service will begin at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Doug Schader, Trinity UCC – Turbotville, officiating. Burial will follow in Watsontown Cemetery.
