Lois Jean (Coombs) Scarfo, 97

Lois Jean (Coombs) Scarfo, 97, passed away peacefully at WeCare in Montoursville, PA, on March 15, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Lois was born on July 27, 1928, in Millville, NJ, a daughter of the late Paul R. Coombs and Goldie C. (McPherson) Eden. She grew up on the family farm, Coombs Dairies, which provided milk for many local families. She was raised by many family members, including her stepfather, David B. Eden. She frequently visited Atlantic City Beach and attended Millville High School.

Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alfred M. Scarfo. They were united in marriage on July 8, 1947, in Ridgway, PA. They later moved to Williamsport, PA, where Alfred worked as a musician and where they started the family business, Scarfo Disposal. Williamsport became their permanent home, where they shared 47 years of marriage, raised five children, and created many cherished memories.

Lois is survived by her children: three sons, John of Vero Beach, FL, and Frank and Alfred “Mikey” Jr., both of Williamsport, PA; and two daughters, Nancy and Mary, both of Williamsport, PA. She also leaves behind a large and loving legacy of 11 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Pauline Croft, Joyce Saunders, and Katherine Christman, and a half-sister, Shirley Coombs.

Lois enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and singing. Her faith was strong, and she always left things in God’s hands. Her family will remember her as “Nana,” a title she held to the highest standard and of which she was immensely proud. Her infectious smile could brighten any bad day. With her warmth, resilience, and deep care for everyone around her, she will be greatly missed and forever held in our hearts.

Private services will be held by family. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
