Gazette and Bulletin: January 15, 1941 – CAA Head to Check Field on Thursday

City council met in adjourned session Tuesday afternoon, at which time a considerable discussion was had over the municipal airport for AP4 required for the expansion of the airport and being desired that no slip up in getting everything just right.

Albert Wessell, CAA representative in Harrisburg was contacted by telephone and agreed to meet with council at 10:30 o’clock Thursday morning and go over and approve the boundaries of the airport. That will clear the way for the passing of the resolution required from council.

In the meantime, the city engineering department will go to the airport today and stake out the lines placing markers so that Mr. Wessell and members of council can fully acquaint themselves with it by seeing it on the ground.

At a morning session of council another effort was made to reach compromise with the owners of the needed property.

The land is owned by James A. Eck and is encumbered with a lease which permits his sons to operate a sand and gravel business on the property.

Last week the Ecks asked for $117,00 for the required 59.2 acres and in satisfaction of the lease hold.

Council and three representatives from J.A. Eck and Sons met over the aspects of a possible condemnation proceeding that city council plans to institute to acquire ready access to the land.
