Gazette and Bulletin: January 7, 1936 – Junior League to Fix Toys for Children

The Junior League will assume the task of collecting, repairing and distribution of toys for needy children next Christmas it was decided at a meeting of the group last night.

The city firemen started the rehabilitation program three years ago and this past year was practically forced to drop the task because of the great expense involved. This past year the firemen repaired some toys and the Junior League helped out some.

The reaction to the Junior League work was so gratifying that the members have decided to continue the work on an extensive scale. The members will do most of the repairing themselves except where mechanical problems are found and they will appeal to the firemen for assistance.

A group at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church also aided this year in repairing and distribution of the toys, handling a large number shortly before Christmas.

More complete plans of the Junior League program will be worked out later this year it was announced. The members are reported as being very enthusiastic about participating in the project.
