Sandra S. Noyes (Stover), known affectionately as “Sandy”, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on November 28, 2025, at Arden Courts of Fair Oaks, Fairfax, Virginia. Sandy was born October 17, 1935, in Trenton, NJ to the late Frederick and Viola (Ola) Stover. In returning home to be with God, she is reunited with her late husband of 62 years, Dr. Willard L. Noyes, her parents, as well as her beloved late sister, Carol Stackhouse (Stover). Sandy is survived by her four children, a step-daughter, and nine grandchildren: Daniel Noyes (wife Connie) and son Zachary of Pensacola, FL; Leanne Rodgers (husband Mark) and children Kirsten, Chelsea, Jonathan, and David of Burke, VA; Susan Martin (husband Brad) and daughter Lindsey of Lancaster, PA; Willard Noyes (wife Miranda) and sons Willard, Hans, and Christiaan of Bloomington, IL; Step-daughter Nicole Chiesa (husband Davidé) of Fernandina Beach, FL; nine great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
A woman of deep faith, unending grace, and immense beauty, Sandy was a graduate of South Williamsport High School where she was a cheerleader, played basketball, and was chosen to represent her school at the Pennsylvania Laural Festival in 1953. She received her teaching degree at Penn State University and was later employed as a third-grade teacher near Philadelphia, PA where she taught for several years. She married Dr. Willard L. Noyes on June 15th, 1957, in Williamsport. PA. In 1960, she moved with her husband and first-born son to rural Susquehanna County where her husband opened a general medical practice in the small town of Thompson, PA. In under five years, Sandy welcomed four children while helping to manage the medical practice and the 120-acre family farm, which was home to horses, cows, dogs, several large gardens, and her beloved blueberry patch. The family moved from rural northeastern Pennsylvania to Allentown, PA in 1971 when her husband began a residency in General and Vascular Surgery.
Sandy lived a life of faith, resilience, and extraordinary grace. As a devoted wife and mother, she wholeheartedly embraced the joy and challenge of raising four cherished children on a modest budget while her husband completed an exhausting six-year surgical residency. Their marriage was not without challenges—times of struggle and sacrifice tested their bond—but Sandy’s steadfast faith and loving spirit sustained her through every trial. With the generosity of the Holy Spirit that defined her, she embraced the new shape of their family with unconditional love, looking ahead with hope and joy for what the next chapter would bring, always extending kindness and acceptance to all who entered her life.
In 1999, she and her husband moved from Allentown to their peaceful Coxton Lake cabin near Thompson, PA, where they remained until 2019. Sandy’s life stands as a testament to the truth that God’s grace is indeed sufficient, and that love, when rooted in Him, can redeem even the most difficult of circumstances.
Sandy was diagnosed with dementia in 2017. When her care became difficult, and following the death of her husband in July of 2019, Sandy was moved to a memory care facility in Fairfax Virginia, near her caring daughters Leanne and Susan, where she remained until her passing.
It is impossible for an obituary to truly capture the importance of her life. She will be cherished for her elegance, unwavering patience, deep faith, and lifelong commitment to prayer and to helping others. Those that knew her say that she radiated love, joy, acceptance, and grace. Her smile was compelling and her simple nature and selflessness were profoundly inspiring. We are all better people for having had her influence in our lives.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Ardern Courts of Fair Oaks for their wonderful care spanning over 6 years in their memory care facility.
