Mary M. Shuhler, 99, of Montoursville, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Valley View Nursing Center, in which she lived for 4 ½ years.
Born June 21, 1926, in Jersey Shore, PA, she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Isabel (Eck) Rell. She and her loving husband Edward shared a wonderful life together until his passing in December of 2020.
Mary graduated from Jersey Shore High School. At a young age, she moved to Nippenose Valley, in which her parents were the original owners of the Breeze Inn. She then moved to Montoursville after marriage and resided there for over 50 years. Mary’s favorite saying about the business was “the customers breezed in and staggered out.” She worked at Sears in downtown Williamsport. Mary was a devoted Catholic at Our lady of Lourdes Church for over 50 years. There she also worked as a CCD teacher. She loved to dance and always wanted to be a part of the action and excitement. She was often referred to as a social butterfly and was loved by all who had the privilege of spending time with her.
She is survived by a son, Kevin G. Shuhler, of Montoursville; a daughter, Tina M. Shuhler, of Montoursville; three nieces, Renee (Art) Amelio, Carlene (Richard) Bower, and Val (Bill) Baier; two nephews, Carlyle (Becky) Rell, and Chris (Amy) Rell; and a sister-in-law, Pat Rell.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Edward C. Shuhler; a sister, Phyllis Nau; and three brothers, George, Bernard, and Carlyle Rell.
Mass will be held at 1 p.m. on July 3, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 100 Walnut Street, Montoursville, with Reverend Michael S. McCormick officiating. A private burial will follow.
Mary’s family would like to give a special thanks for the excellent care at Valley View Rehab and Nursing Center, especially the 600 Hall. Mary truly loved each and every one of you.
