Frances M. Barr, 84, of Montoursville, died Monday, June 16, 2025, at Valley View Nursing Center.

Born June 4, 1941, in Punxsutawney, PA, she was the daughter of Joseph A. Palmer and Christine V. (Pape) Palmer. Frances was the wife of the late Robert R. Barr, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage.

Frances was a licensed beautician educator who taught at Empire Beauty School in Dubois and Williamsport. She sold Avon for many years and enjoyed visiting with her customers. Frances loved being a mother and grandmother. She always looked forward to the kids and grandchildren coming home for the weekend. Frances also was a wonderful homemaker. She loved to cook and bake! Some of her “famous” recipes include beef BBQ, spaghetti sauce, Italian meatballs, lasagna, cabbage rolls, and many cookie recipes.

Frances was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Montoursville.

Frances is survived by her son Gregory D. Barr, of Prospect; daughter, Deborah A. (John) Noel, of Dover; granddaughter, Danielle Noel; grandsons, Ben Popejoy, Nathan (Leah) Popejoy, Jordan (Taylor) Noel, Brandon Barr, Jason Barr; sister, Lu Parry, of Lewis Center, OH; several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.

In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by spouse, Robert R. Barr, brothers, Joseph A. Palmer, Jr., and Martin Palmer, sister-in-law, Judith Nichols.

The family would like to extend absolute appreciation to all the staff at Valley View Nursing Center for the care and love of Frances since 2013.

Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 733 Broad Street Montoursville, with Rev. Father Michael S. McCormick officiating. Burial will follow at Twin Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
