Jane Adele (Spitler) Naugle, 94

Jane Adele (Spitler) Naugle, 94, of Montoursville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. She was born in Williamsport on October 4, 1930 to Helen E. (Schick) and Joe B. Spitler.

The only daughter among four siblings, Jane was raised in the Spitler Funeral Home on Broad Street. She was a tough young lady who played ball and climbed rooftops with the boys, but also loved Saturday movies and outings with the girls. A year after graduating from Montoursville High School in 1948, Jane drove three girlfriends in her father’s Packard to Cape Cod and New York City-an adventure she fondly remembered as a highlight of her youth. When she married Carl E. Naugle in 1950, she began their life together much the same way-spotting a sign for NYC on their honeymoon, she confidently took the wheel and drove her new husband into the city with the same independence and sense of adventure.

In 1955, Jane and Carl built their forever home on Spruce Street-based on plans she proudly customized with an architect. It reflected her sense of style and practical nature. It was here they raised their four children and laid the foundation for generations to come, building not just a house but a family that remained central to Jane’s life and brought her immense pride.

Affectionately known as Gram, Jane was the backbone of her home-thoughtfully managing everyday details that made it a place of comfort and connection. When she took time for herself, Jane was a gifted artist, often sketching the landscapes she encountered during cross-country travels with Carl in their camper. She enjoyed sewing projects (including her own clothing) and cooking. Over the years, she shared these interests and made cherished memories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She found pleasure in good cups of tea, warm baths, scoops of homemade ice cream, and the familiar charm of the view from her kitchen window. Her curiosity and sense of humor were gifts to those who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.

Jane is survived by her four children, Kalen J. Schloyer, of East Longmeadow, MA, Kirk E. Naugle (Cindy) of Montoursville, PA, Kim I. McGee (Jack), of Montoursville, PA, and Kristine E. Frederick, of Lakewood, PA; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her three brothers, Joe S. Spitler, Thomas D. Spitler and Philip W. Spitler (Theresa), all of Montoursville, PA. Jane is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 69 years, Carl; sisters-in-law, Charlotte (Stroble) Spitler and Donna (Ertel) Spitler; and sons-in-law, Carroll R. Schloyer and Charles O. Frederick.

A graveside funeral service will be held at the Montoursville Cemetery on June 19, 2025 at 10:30AM. Flowers will be provided by the family.
