Shirley Marie (Walters) Houseknecht 78, passed away peacefully Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, at UPMC Williamsport.

Born November 29,1946, Shirley was the daughter of the late Britton and Emma (Clark) Walters. She was a graduate of Hughesville High School Class of 1964.

Shirley married her high school sweetheart, David Houseknecht, on December 19, 1964, celebrating 53 years of marriage before his passing in 2018. They enjoyed family vacations together at the beach. She loved canning vegetables and spaghetti sauce from the garden that her husband planted, teaching her daughters along the way.

Shirley was adored by family and friends celebrating weddings, births, graduations and holidays. She spent her summers lounging by her pool with family and friends and would put puzzles together over the winter months. Shirley survived Lymphoma, believing that staying active was the key.

Shirley is survived by two daughters, Dawn (Alan) Gresh of Muncy, and Jeri Lyn (Brad) James of NC; grandchildren, Stephen James, Amanda Gresh and husband Christopher Bowes, Rachel (Mitchell) Huff, and Julia James; a great-grandson Logan Huff; two sisters, Doris (Gary) Gorg of Muncy, and Brenda (Keith) Harer of Montgomery; and a brother Thomas Walters of Picture Rocks.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a sister Mildred Barnard; brothers, Roy, Donald, Harley, Warren, Joseph, Gordon, and Robert Walters.

The family would like to thank ICU nurses Nate, and Aidan, Dr. Alfredo Blas, and the entire staff for their excellent care and compassion.

In keeping with Shirley’s wishes, services will be private at the convenience of the family.
