Ruby G. Gibson, 90

Ruby G. Gibson, 90, of Williamsport, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at The Gatehouse, surrounded by her family. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother to many, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Born on February 4, 1934, in Charleston, SC, she was a daughter of the late Carlton and Eddie Mae (Gamble) Staggers. Ruby was a proud graduate of William Penn High School, class of 1952. She continued her education and received certification as an LPN, caring for many patients for over 35 years at the Episcopal Hospital until her retirement in 1996. After retirement, Ruby relocated to Williamsport in 2009.
Ruby’s kind and selfless nature also touched many lives in her community. She served as a member on the River Valley Health Board, and gave her time in the Compassionate Ministry Food Pantry. She received Woman of the Year Award of the community of Williamsport for her day-to-day ministries in helping others.
In her spare time, Ruby enjoyed traveling and BINGO, and she enjoyed participating in Bible study at her church, Grace Life Fellowship. She also attended Bible Study Fellowship for many years, and she left a tremendous imprint on the community. Above all of her accomplishments and life endeavors, family brought Ruby the most joy. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and reflecting on the special friendships she has made along the way.

Surviving are her four children, Valerie Cousar (Alan), Harold Gibson (Catherine), John Gibson, Jasper “Man” Gamble; nine grandchildren, Khaliah, Jmir, Kareem, Akeem, Iyuana, Saabir, Earl, Tia, and Christopher; eight great-grandchildren, and a sister, Carla Patillo. Ruby also leaves behind her spiritual family at Grace Life Fellowship and many loving friends, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Ruby was also preceded in death by her husband, Willie Gibson; a son, Albert M. Gibson; a daughter, Kathleen Gibson Smith-Kinchlowe, and a sister Katherine Gibson Hinson.

A memorial service to honor Ruby’s life will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave., Williamsport. Ruby’s son, Elder Harold Gibson will be officiating. A visitation will be held prior from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the funeral home.
