Elizabeth “Sis” Rogers Knyrim, 92

Elizabeth “Sis” Rogers Knyrim, 92, of Montoursville, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully with family by her side Monday, January 6, 2025. She was born April 1, 1932, in Hughesville, PA. She was a daughter of the late Harry L. Rogers, Sr. and Ruby (Shoemaker) Rogers. She married Emerson W. Knyrim of Hazleton, PA on October 18, 1958, and were married for 59 years until his passing in 2018.

In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Elizabeth was known for her love of gardening and flowers. She was a member of the Montoursville Garden Club for 60 years. She loved her time working with the Garden Club, especially the Garden Club’s Civic Beautification Committee cleaning, planting, and maintaining flowers and bushes in several public spaces in Montoursville in the 1970s and 80s. Those areas included the triangle on Loyalsock Ave, the flower bed near the clock in downtown, the former flower beds next to the Loyalsock Bridge, and the planters formerly along Broad Street. She spent this time with her dear friends of ‘The Dirty Finger Nail Club’ including June Laudig, Betty Unger, Jackie Murray and a few others.

Elizabeth spent most of her life as a homemaker, caring for her family. However, she also opened and co-owned The House of Flowers in Hughesville for some time. Soon after that, she opened and operated The Stagecoach Stop antique shop on Broad Street just east of Montoursville in the mid 80s.

Elizabeth was also very interested in local and family history and collecting antiques. This led her to the next phase of her life. Elizabeth (Sis) and Dean Kilgus were pivotal in acquiring and opening The East Lycoming Historical Society Museum in Hughesville. The building was donated by the generosity of Pauline and George Montgomery, whom Sis had known since childhood. Together, Elizabeth was the first Curator and Dean Kilgus was the first Director. They had been best friends since they were kids. She enjoyed this time of her life very much.

She is survived by two sons, Christian (Anne) Knyrim of Lavallette, NJ and Scott Knyrim of Montoursville, and granddaughter, Kelly (Bjorn) Knyrim Reigle of Weddington, NC. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and, of course, the family cats.

Along with her parents and husband, Elizabeth was preceded in death by a sister, Agatha R. Taylor and a brother, Harry L. Rogers Jr.

Her favorite Bible Verse was John 14 in the King James version. When you read it or hear it, think of her and smile.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home.
