Melva A. Schon, 82

Melva A. Schon, 82, of Jersey Shore, and formerly of Cogan Station, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2024, with family by her side.

Born on December 28, 1941 in Williamsport, Melva was a daughter of the late George Harold and Mary Elizabeth (Baker) Courter. She graduated from Sugar Valley High School in 1959, and shortly after married her first husband, Dean L. Paulhamus, who preceded her death in 1992. Melva became a dedicated member of Quiggleville United Methodist Church in 1960, raising her family in the loving comfort of God’s word. Later in life, after her first husband passing, Melva remarried to John A. Schon, who recently preceded her in death in December of 2023. She enjoyed participating in church activities including the Women’s Missionary group. One of Melva’s favorite hobbies was quilting. In her lifetime she made over 100 quilts for friends, family and even baby gifts. She also liked to travel and share her experiences, especially about her Alaska trip. Melva was also involved in her community, holding a position on the women’s council of the West Branch Susquehanna Builder’s Association. She was a great baker and cook and enjoyed sharing her culinary creations with others. If Melva wanted to relax, she would turn on the television and play one handed solitaire. Above all accolades, hobbies and interests, her most treasured accomplishment was in being a homemaker and caring for her family whom she dearly loved.

She is survived by her five children, LeRoy Paulhamus (Glenna) Rodney Paulhamus (Karen), Ronald Paulhamus (Sondra), Bernardine Hess (Chris), and Tina Myers (Lee); two step-sons, Michael Schon (Ronda) and Matthew Schon (Louanne); a step-daughter, Christina Rogers (Chris); sixteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and many extended family members.
