Shirley B. Crawley, 89

Shirley B. Crawley, 89, of Hughesville, died Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Valley View Nursing Center, Montoursville. Shirley married James Crawley on May 12, 1956. They celebrated 47 years of marriage together, until James passing on February 6, 2004.

Born April 28, 1935, in Hughesville, she was a daughter of the late George and Edith (Warn) Harding. Shirley was a graduate of Bloomsburg University where she received both Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Elementary Education. She was employed at the East Lycoming School District for 26 years, teaching 5th grade at Ferrell Elementary School. Shirley was a member of the Beacon United Methodist Church, Hughesville, a member and past president of the East Lycoming Historical Society, and past president of the Northcentral Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. She enjoyed history, genealogy, sewing, and traveling.

Surviving are two sons, Thomas E. (Mary) Crawley, of Hughesville, and David (Tracy) Crawley, of Lawrenceville, GA; a daughter, Susan Fazekas, of Dillsburg; two grandchildren, Thomas J. (Sarah) Crawley, of Sparks, MD, and Scarlett Crawley, of Lawrenceville, GA; two great granddaughters, Anna Crawley and Evelyn Crawley; a sister Elizabeth (Steven) Swisher, of Hughesville; and her companion of 18 years, Robert Franklin, of Hughesville.

In addition to her parents and her husband James, Shirley was preceded in death by brothers LaRue, Robert, and William Harding.

Funeral Service will at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2024, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St. Hughesville, with her pastor Kevin St. Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2024 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made in Shirley’s name to the Beacon United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 68, Hughesville, PA 17737, or to the East Lycoming Historical Society, 66 S. Main Street, Hughesville, PA 17737.
