Larry C. Smith, 77, of Hughesville, died Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center Muncy. He married the former Carolyn A. Kreidler on December 30, 1967.
Born October 2, 1946, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Carl and Mary (Mills) Smith. Larry was a graduate of Hughesville High School. He served in the US Air Force, Strategic Air Command, during Vietnam as a jet engine mechanic. Larry retired in 2013 after 45 years of employment as a Plant Superintendent at Hanson Aggregates in their Muncy and Blossburg locations.
Larry was a member of American Legion Post #35 Hughesville, and the 40/8 voiture 382. He enjoyed fishing and hunting along with offering advice on how it should be done. Larry loved having all his grandchildren living so close and spending time with them. One of his favorite things was sitting on the deck swing chatting and watching thunderstorms with his youngest grandson. He absolutely adored his three-year-old great granddaughter and couldn’t wait to see her even with his declining health.
Surviving in addition to his wife Carolyn are two sons, Richard Smith, of Hughesville, and William Smith, of Hughesville; four grandchildren, Zane (Mckenzie) Smith, Katlyn (Benjamin) Weigand, McKenna Smith, and James Smith; one great granddaughter, Salem Smith; a brother, Gary Smith, of Hughesville; four sisters, Donna Walker, of Hughesville, Carlene (Richard) Mausteller, of Hughesville, Denise (Mark) Lyons, of Hughesville, and Deborah (Robert) Ditzler, of Lairdsville.
A celebration of Larry’s life will held privately at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Larry’s name to the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Williamsport, C/O Susquehanna Health Foundation, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
