Richard L. “Dick” Hartzell, 88, of Montgomery, died Sunday, May 26, 2024, at Roseview Rehabilitation Center, Williamsport. Richard married Judith Dewald on March 31, 1962, recently celebrating 62 years of marriage.
Born March 31, 1936, in Montgomery, he was a son of Lloyd and Carolyn (Maxwell) Hartzell. He was a graduate of Montgomery Clinton High School and graduated from Williamsport Technical Institute. Richard was a US Army veteran, serving in Korea with the 6th Tank Battalion. He was employed at Montgomery Plumbing, and he retired from Vitalink Pharmacy, as a courier. Richard was a member of Masonic Lodge #299, F.&A.M., Muncy, the Montgomery VFW, and the Bower Decker Post 251, American Legion, Montgomery. He was also a member of Red Ridge Hunting Club, Plunketts Creek Township. Richard served as School Board President of the Montgomery Area School District. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid supporter of Montgomery athletics.
Surviving in addition to his wife Judith, is a daughter, Karen Lamper (Steve Hamod), of Muncy; two sons, Richard “Scott” (Lynda) Hartzell, of Felton, and Jonathan (Andrea) Hartzell, of LaVita, CO; grandchildren, Jed (Haylea) Lamper, Tessa Lamper, Cheyenne Hartzell, and Jonathan Hartzell; and a sister, Frances Rowe, of Lancaster.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Freeh.
Graveside services will be held 11a.m. Monday, June 3, 2024, at Fairview Cemetery, 75 Wagner Avenue Montgomery, PA. Graveside military honors will be accorded by various area veteran’s organizations.
The family will provide the flowers and suggest memorial contributions to Montgomery American Legion 185 Broad St., Montgomery, PA, 17752, or the Montgomery Area Public Library, 1 S. Main Street, Montgomery, PA 17752.
