Little League Baseball Inc. is expecting another banner season for the summer camp program which runs from June 23 to August 16.

Officials at L.L.B. headquarters in South Williamsport expect a full capacity for about 500 boys for the 4 regular two-week sessions. The new Green Acres campsite at Hillsgrove in Sullivan County will be open for a similar period and can accommodate 35 boys.

Little League will also be operating a camp at St. Petersburg, Florida this summer.

Another development has seen the addition of Hal Schumacher, former pitching star of the old New York Giants to the L.L.B. staff.

Schumacher spent 13 seasons with the Giants during the 1930s and 40s, was mainstay of the Giants participating in three World Series and one All-Star Game.

He will serve along with Summer Camp regular, Joe Bedenk, Penn State baseball coach, as a guest instructor.

Schools for managers and umpires are planned again for this year. Umpire enrollment is reported at near capacity.

Four L.L. diamonds and two senior division fields will be available to campers.

Most if not all of the 1967 camp staffers will be back this season. The staff includes “Whitey” Piurek, athletic director at West Haven, Conn. High School, and a scout for several major league teams, Arthur Crouse, Purek’s assistant at West Haven, former Williamsport Grays’ pitcher, Jack Sanford and three Williamsport High School staffers, Stanley Skuta, Rupert Morgan, Eugene “Chick” Springman, and former standout Williamsport athlete and former Boston Brave, Don Manno.
