Jerry Roy Peterman, 74, of Sonestown, passed away on October 18, 2023, after an extended illness.
He was born February 2, 1949, to the late Leo and Arvilla (Warburton) Peterman in Sonestown, PA.
Gloria (Braque), his loving wife of 43 years passed away in 2022. The youngest son of eleven children, Jerry was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Neil, Lee Wayne, Terry, and Tony.
He is survived by brothers Larry, Dale, and Clair; sisters Donna Macarevich, Jean Ottenheimer, and Diane Peterman; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Jerry served in the United States Army as Sergeant in the Vietnam War from 1969-1971. Jerry was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three (3) Bronze Service Stars, Combat Infantryman Badge, Army Commendation Medal with Device & Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and the Vietnamese Civil Action Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.
Jerry was a proud member and volunteer at Post 601, Sonestown American Legion. Jerry was an avid golfer, fisherman, and hunter. Along with his brothers, they hunted elk, deer, bear, wild boar, caribou, ducks, wild geese in Colorado, Montana, Oregon, California, Kentucky, and Canada. He possessed a GREAT sense of humor and was quick with a comment. He always saw the positive in things. Jerry was a kind person to everyone and available to help his family.
Jerry and Gloria owned and operated two bars in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was previously employed by Peterman Lumber Company. In retirement, he and Gloria enjoyed traveling the United States and spending time in Pennsylvania. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, Chaplin and staff at Geisinger Medical, Danville for their impeccable care and guidance.
There will be no viewing. Burial and services will be conducted in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Nordmont with full military honors at a later date. Donations may be made to Cherry Grove Cemetery or Post 601, Sonestown American Legion.
