On December 11, 2022 at 1:00 p.m., runners and walkers will lace up their running shoes to participate in the 42nd Annual Frostbite 5 Mile Run and 19th Annual Penguin 5K Walk. The Frostbite 5 Mile Run is the longest fundraising race event in the Williamsport area. For the past 20 years, Special Olympics Lycoming County has been the recipient of all funds raised from these events. This money has been used to help the program purchase new uniforms, buy sports equipment, start new sports and rent training and competition facilities. These two events are a big part of their annual fundraising activities and enables Special Olympics to provide over 121 athletes and Unified partners with the opportunity to train and compete in 13 different individual and team sports throughout the year.
Since Lycoming County Special Olympics is a non-profit organization that receives no state or federal financial support, they need to rely on community support to raise all monies required to operate their programs. This is where all of you come in to help make this fundraising event a great success.
Individuals wishing to participate can Join the Inclusion Revolution by registering in advance by going to falcon race timing, selecting upcoming events and select Frostbite 5 Mile Run and register on line. However, if you do not preregister you are not left out. Race day registration is still available for all interested individuals starting at 11:00 AM at the Duboistown Fire Hall. For all preregistered participants your registration fee includes a long sleeve tech race shirt, sling bag with some swag, door prize drawings and pre and post-race food and beverages. Race day registered participants are not guaranteed a shirt or a sling bag but would still be entered into the door prize drawings. To assure that everyone wishing to participate and support Lycoming County Special Olympics this year, we are also offering both a virtual and actual race day event.
As in past years, the courses will traverse through Duboistown Borough and Armstrong Township. Participants will be vying for over 60 awards in 11 male and female running and walking divisions. Trophies will be handed out to the top 3 overall male and female runners while trophies will go to the first place overall male and female walker. In addition to the trophies, medals will be presented to age group winners along with gift cards being handed out to individuals for varies achievements.
Putting on events such as these takes time and many volunteers.
