The Maynard Midget nine last night, captured the National Little League Tournament crown with a smashing 16-7 over the Lock Haven All-Stars before a throng of 2,500 on the Little League diamond.

The Maynard Midgets advanced into the final round with an exciting win over the Lincoln League All-Stars 2-1 in 10 innings yesterday afternoon, while the Havenites moved into the select group with a 5-1 win over Hammonton, N.J. All-Stars in the opening semi-final contest.

Presented a four-run margin in the first frame, Eddie Ungard went on from there to twirl his mates to the title with an eight-hit performance and was never in serious trouble although he was touched for four runs in the bottom half of the inning when Rechel clubbed out a three-run circuit clout over the right-centerfield fence.

Paced by lead-off hitter Tony Ingersoll, who went four for four and Butch Laurenson, who thrilled the crowd with a stellar defensive play at shortstop. The Maynards pecked away at Starter, Carl Russsell, Rechel, and Dubby Glossner for five in the second and two in the fourth and fifth and trio in the final canto. Russell was charged with the defeat.

After the game, Carl Stotz introduced Mayor Leo C. Williamson, who presented the championship trophy to the Maynard Midgets. Eastern League President Tommy Richardson presented the runner-up trophy to the Lock Haven All-Stars. Mitch Younken, president of the Newberry Lions Club, presented gold medals to each member of the championship team.

Every player participating in the tournament will receive a bronze member suitably inscribed.
